Greed is the religion of the billionaire class.

What is Bernie Sander’s religion and is he an atheist?

On the April 1, 2011 episode of ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’, the issue of pastor Terry Jones’ mock trial and burning of the Qur’an which resulted in protests and numerous deaths in Afghanistan was brought up. Sanders says to Maher:

How does an atheist make moral decisions without an authoritative text?

Several online dictionaries define “authoritative” as

1. Having or arising from authority; official.

An authoritative text, in the minds of Christians, is their Bible. Christians claim their good book is inspired by a divine being. Christians claim the Bible is the absolute perfect word of God. The Bible, Christians say, is infallible.

Yet, the Bible encourages acts of murder, rape, slavery, genocide and barbarism, that are totally illegal in the modern world. No sane person would stone a women claiming to be a witch to death because the Bible says to do it. Neither can you kill homosexuals because the Bible commands you to do so.

The Bible is morally weak in these areas and completely, totally and disgustingly wrong. The Bible shows itself to be fallible. If there was a divine, perfect being, that being definitely did not write the Bible. In fact, all evidence shows that the Bible was written by human beings. The Bible, in reality, expresses the views of the culture that existed at the time of its writing, not the desires of a God.

Where do preachers get their authority and who gives it to them?

Since none of what so-called “holy” men claim to be the word of God has been shown to be true and a great deal of it has been shown to be untrue and immoral, I doubt that an “authoritative text” is where morality comes from.

People know not to hurt other people. If you hurt people, they’ll hurt you back. Your best friends are those that help you and take care of you. In return, you help them and try to take care of them. If peaceful society, where people help each other is going to be the most moral and best one to live in.

I do not need an authoritative text to be moral. I know that if I do something that I would not want done to me, that act is wrong. I try not to hurt other people. It is fairly simple to be more.

What points do I need to consider in order to find the best German online course?

I answered this question at StackOverflow, before I realized that the question was 10 months old and not likely to get a response. Therefore, I’ll post my comments here and see if anyone has any comments of suggestions.

When learning German and choosing an online course

It is very important to understand that the gender of a noun is the most important element, when learning the German language. Without knowing the gender of a noun, it is impossible to properly form a sentence correctly. If the course fails to include the article when teaching nouns, it should be avoided.

For example, if the course only teaches you that “Haus” is the word for “house”, it should be avoided. The course must teach you that “house” is “das Haus/die Häuser”.

Deutsch Welle (DW) is a good place to get supplemental learning material. In addition to their website, they have some audio podcasts on iTunes. I like the slow news podcast, where the current events are read slower than they are in normal new broadcasts.

The only problem with the DW is that they are designed for multinational students living in Germany. The vocabulary lists are not going to have English translations in many cases.

If you are looking for a really good online course, you might try Duolingo. It is free, fun and slightly addictive.

Two absolutely essential resources are the dict.cc and leo.de websites. Both sites are off-shoots of the Mr. Honey German dictionaries available at Gutenberg.org by Winfried Honig. Dict.cc allows you to download their entire database for your personal use. I downloaded it. It is a CSV of over 1 million rows.

Lastly, be sure to look at youtube.de as a source of German material. There are a large number of German language audio books available including many kids books. I constantly listen to German audio books. There is nothing better for students who are not around German language speakers on a regular basis than listening to German language books. I recommend the speakers David Nathan, Dietmar Wunder, and the great Dirk Bach.

It is not small-minded to be concerned about a presidential candidate’s personality and addictions. His policies, as with most politicians, change depending on who is donating to his campaign. Policy speeches are rarely written by the candidate anyhow. That’s all smoke and mirrors.

A candidate’s personality, however, is very telling. This man is obviously unable to control himself and his desires. You can see this because he must compulsively overeat to be as fat as he is. His weight shows this weakness in his puffy little cheeks.

His weight also shows that he is not concerned with his health. He must know that he is shortening his lifespan, yet he continues to eat poorly. That not only means that he lies to himself about his eating habits, it also shows that he has poor decision-making abilities. He chooses the path of least resistance. If he cannot show the discipline it takes to maintain a healthy weight, when it would be for the good of himself and his family, how can he be trusted to have the discipline it takes to selflessly lead country?I’d never vote for an alcoholic, a drug addict, a sex addict, a food addict, a gambling addict, a compulsive liar or a whole host of other personality disorders that show a person to be too flawed to lead. He cannot control himself. He is weak. Therefore, this fat fuck’s weight is extremely relevant if you vote for a person based on character.

People talk about body-shaming like it is racism. BS. Fat people are foodaholics. They are no different than alcoholics or drug addicts. They get no free pass. They are fucking up their health and they need to start eating right. Just because America is an overweight nation and being fat is normal, it does not mean that it is the smart choice. Eat some vegetables every once in a while. Go for a walk. Stop acting like you are trying to die as quickly as possible.
