This is what police do when they know that they are being filmed. What happens when there are no cameras running? Is this the new normal? Are we as Americans okay with this type of abuse from our public servants?
It is correct that the woman was arrested. She was driving under the influence and should be punished. It is not, however, the job of the police to determine what that punishment should be. They do not have the right to smash a woman’s face in. The Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution says “[No person shall] be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law;” and “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.” Bashing a woman’s face in is excessive and cruel. She has been deprived a portion of her life.
Something is wrong with the justice system. This is not a racial issue. Excessive force is being used against people. It is wrong and it needs to stop.
