Did Obama say this?

There is no actual evidence that President Obama said the quote that is being attributed to him. It would make progressives happy if President Obama would take a stand against conservative Christians. Unfortunately, it does not appear that he said it.

Amy Sullivan, a contributing editor for Time magazine, wrote in a July 05, 2012 New Republic article entitled Anatomy of a Wishful Viral Rumor, it is unlikely that Obama actually challenged conservatives on the topic of women’s sexuality. Amy Sullivan says the quote is a “lie” and then goes on to explain why such quotes become believed so quickly.

Sullivan writes, “The reason distorted or fabricated tales about political candidates spread so quickly, of course, is because people want to believe the very worst about their opponents. They also want to believe the very best about their own candidates. That appears to be why a lie about Obama became a viral sensation among his own supporters this year.

Whether it is true or not, the saying has become popular with progressives. Since it first made its debut in 2012, the saying continues to get circulated on Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter.

I think both parties are too conservative. I wish that Obama really did have a liberal agenda. I wish Obama was a socialist. I wish Obama was an atheist. I wish Obama would end the drug war. I wish Obama would let non-violent drug offenders out of jail. I wish Obama would become the progressive that I thought he was when I voted for him. Though none of these wishes are going to come true, one can always continue to “hope” for the “change” that was promised.
